According to local news reports, an Oxnard man was the most recent victim of a suspected driving under the influence car accident last month. Reports indicate that the fatality occurred after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hill Street and Ventura Road in Oxnard, California. At around 9:00 p.m. on June 1, the Oxnard Police Department was reported to have responded to the collision, in which they “found a Honda Accord overturned in the southbound lanes of Ventura Road and a Mitsubishi Eclipse on the northbound shoulder….” Initial investigations into the horrific and fatal car accident revealed that “…the Honda was traveling east on Hill Street and made a right turn onto southbound Ventura Road. The driver was turning when his Honda was broadsided by the southbound Mitsubishi….” The Mitsubishi was reported by witnesses to have “had a green light and the right of way” when the accident occurred and “the Honda had a red light.” The intersection where the accident happened, notably, does not allow for a right-hand turn on a red light.
The driver of the Honda – only identified at this time as a 28-year-old man – was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 31-year-old woman from Oxnard, was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. According to reports, “[a]lcohol impairment was believed to have been a factor in the collision.” The accident is still under investigation, and it remains to be seen whether any charges will be filed in the case.
