Head-On Collision Kills Two in Ventura County – Victims of Head-On Car Accidents in Ventura Have Questions About Their Rights Under California Personal Injury Laws

A multi-fatality car accident shook the Ventura County community just last month, and some Ventura residents are searching for answers about their rights under California laws if they or their loved ones are injured in a serious motor vehicle collision in Ventura. According to local news reports, on Friday, July 11, a two-vehicle car accident ended in the death of two individuals. Reports indicate that the car accident occurred just after 5:30 p.m., in the eastbound lanes of Highway 126 near the Los Angeles County line, east of Piru, California. Although there are few details regarding how the accident occurred, the vehicles involved were a blue Chevrolet Tahoe, and a white Subaru. The Tahoe was traveling west when it was reported to have “veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into [the] white Subaru in the eastbound lanes….” There were four occupants traveling in the Tahoe, and those occupants were reported to have “suffered severe injuries, including a man with a severed leg.” All the Tahoe’s occupants were rushed to the hospital, where unfortunately one of the individuals passed away. In addition, the driver of the Subaru, identified as 46-year-old Chad Kampbell of Stevenson Ranch, was killed in the accident.

Reports reveal that “Highway 126 has been colloquially known as “Blood Alley” for decades, due to the number of especially deadly collisions that take place on its roadway.” CHP Officer Ryan Ayers said of the deadly highway, “The 126 as we know, has a history of having these types of crashes…This corridor is one that you need to use extra caution on; there’s no dividers between traffic. It’s traveling at freeway speeds, and we just say that everyone should have a high ‘visual horizon,’ meaning you’re looking as far ahead as possible, maintaining your lane, staying distraction-free.” He also added that, “[t]he 126 is so rural people get highway hypnosis, and they don’t understand what they’re actually doing while they’re driving…They get sucked into trying to do other things while they’re driving (…) and this is the result that we have. So [sic] we just want to make sure that passengers are letting their drivers drive, being a good lookout for their drivers as well, and staying distraction-free.” The accident is still under investigation currently.
